Supplements to Complement Your Body’s Host Strength

Making healthy choices like consuming nutritious foods, contributes to your body’s host strength. However, sometimes it’s difficult to get plant sourced food, or whole food high in nutrients. The following supplements are widely considered excellent contributors to the body’s host strength:

  • Vitamin C: Also known as ascorbic acid, is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. Supports the function of various immune cells and enhances their ability to protect against infection. Functions as a powerful antioxidant, protecting against damage induced by oxidative stress. It is involved in many body functions including forming collagen, absorption of iron, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones and teeth. Recommended dosage for host strength: 1000mg/day adults, 500mg/day children
  • Vitamin D: Fat soluble vitamin essential to the health and functioning of the innate and adaptive immune response. Deficiency is associated with increased autoimmunity as well as increased susceptibility to infection. Plays a significant role in the regulation of calcium and maintenance of phosphorus levels in the blood, needed for maintaining healthy bones. Recommended dosage for host strength: 1,000-10,000 IU/day adults (depending on deficiency), 400-800 IU/day children
  • Zinc: A mineral that’s essential for immune cell development and communication and plays an important role in inflammatory response. A deficiency affects the immune response and results in an increased risk of infection and disease. Recommended dosage for host strength: maximum 40mg/day adults, 8-10mg/day children
